The most important preparation is the presence of pigment to capture the laser energy. If the pigment is not there then the follicle will not be illuminated by the laser light. Follow these tips to get the most out of each session:

  • No Waxing, Threading, or Tweezing: These methods should be avoided for at least four weeks before the treatment. This will guarantee that there will be adequate hair follicles that will have grown to enable the treatment to work. Shaving is permitted before the session and between the sessions as well.
  • Do Not Use Bleach: Bleaching your hair removes the pigment from your hair right from the root and this makes the treatment not work. Do not bleach hair that is meant for treatment for at least 4 weeks before the treatment.
  • Void Sun Exposure: Pre-treatment exposure to the sun is not advisable since it has some adverse effects. Do not tan or use artificial tanners before or between treatments and wear protective clothing or use sunscreen when in the sun.
  • Shave Before Treatment: Shaving does not remove the hair root; thus, you can shave through it during the treatment period. It is advisable to shave 24 hours before the session to reduce the growth of hair on the skin as much as possible. Your dermatologist may also recommend that you limit or avoid the use of certain OTC medications and supplements, including nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs.
